Whitefish Dunes State Park — can be legally accessed for free on foot by following the Brachiopod Trail to the right along the shore after parking at Cave Point County Park. If the Cave Point County Park parking lot is full, then you may need to pay and park at Whitefish Dunes State Park instead.
Newport State Park — can be legally accessed for free on foot after parking at Hotz Memorial Town Park. Both the Cave Point and Hotz Memorial parks are enclaves within the state parks that are not owned by the Wisconsin DNR.
Rock Island State Park — free, but there is a cost to ride the ferry to get there
Grand Traverse Island State Park — free, but no ferry access, camping, or restrooms; located on Detroit Island
